Most
birdwatchers have interests other than birds. Some are a natural
extension of the fascination we feel for birds and there are few
birdwatchers who would not pause to admire a brightly-coloured butterfly
or an unusual mammal if they were to encounter one on a birding
trip. Others equate the beauty of birds with art or music, while
for some it is the intriguing reminders of history to be found at
many good birdwatching sites that inspire them to a greater appreciation
of the environment, and perhaps allow them to look at birds in a
slightly different light, seeing them as common living witnesses
that have been present throughout the ages.
It is because people have other interests as well
as birds that we have been developing our 'Birds and...' tours over
the past decade. They have proved to be extremely popular and we
invite you to share in the twin delights of birds and butterflies,
birds and music, and birds and history.
The tours combine the two interests in various ways.
On the birds and music tours, most birdwatching is done in the mornings,
while some afternoons and most evenings are given over to concerts
and operas. Birds and history are often easy to combine, as many
historical sites are located among natural settings that are excellent
for birds. Our birds and butterflies destinations tend to be chosen
for a limited but specialised selection of each group, so there
is time to pursue both interests at a relaxed pace.
For those with wider interests, who fancy something
different from our more usual birding trips, the 'Birds and...'
tours offer exciting alternatives.
